The Proposal That Went All Wrong | Our Cape Breton Wedding Stories; Part 1

As wedding season approaches, we thought it would be a fun idea to kick it off by sharing some of our personal wedding memories, from our proposal story to our wedding day celebration! They are unique, awkward, and full of love. Stick around at the end for some of our photos!

Part 1: The Proposal that Went All Wrong!
Paul had it all planned out. A romantic date night at our favourite restaurant, followed by a summer sunset proposal on the Sydney Boardwalk where he first asked me out. And then....I went and screwed it all up🙈. First, I invited a couple of friends to double date with us. Then, when those friends invited us to their place after supper, I graciously accepted (while Paul secretly rolled his eyes, but willingly tagged along). It was nearing midnight before we were on our way home, and while I was none the wiser, Paul simply thought to himself “another night Paul....another night”.
After dropping me off at my apartment, Paul parked about a block a way, a little disgruntled. But then about 10 minutes later, he circled back. I received a text from him saying: “hey I’m out front, can you come down right quick, I forgot I had bought you roses which were in the trunk and I never had the chance to give them to you”.
By this time I was in my pyjamas and had crawled into bed. And when I got that text I was almost a little annoyed that I had to come back downstairs. That annoyance shifted very quickly. While he did have roses(which was common in our relationship), Paul pointed out that the two roses were intertwined, which signified engagement. And as he explained that to me, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I proceeded to freak out and wake the entire neighbourhood, and my whole apartment building, even getting a noise complaint (keep in mind it was after midnight).
What I love so much about our uniquely awkward engagement is that in the end, Paul didn’t care that things didn’t go according to plan. He just wanted to get engaged. And didn’t want to wait any longer, regardless of the circumstance. It was genuine and real. And even though I was in my pyjamas in the middle of my apartment parking lot, it’s a memory I’ll have forever, and one I wouldn’t change for the world!
Come on back next week for part 2, as we’ll fast forward to our crazy, yet incredibly beautiful wedding day. In the mean time, check out some of our engagement pictures, captured by our good friends Michelle Leudy and Brittany Macleod!
